Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at becoming famous in the mainstream were unsuccessful. Two different record labels signed her, but dismissed her prior to having recorded any songs. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted little attention due to its jolly cheeky title track. Perry made more of a splash in the following months with her song I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the desire for sexual pleasure accompanied by a hard-edged electro-pop beat. Many critics accused the track for promoting sexual relationships some claimed that the graphic depiction was designed for men to entice them into romantic fantasies. I Kissed a Girl's blend of titillation, polished melody and a catchy chorus helped its popularity to reach the top 10 across multiple nations. It also helped Perry to sell more albums like One of the Boys (2007). The sharp and bouncy second single was also extremely popular. This album that Perry composed for herself ended up selling more than three million copies in United States.
